President Draupadi Murmu is currently on a three-day visit to Jharkhand. During this he also participated in some programs. During a program, President Murmu said on Thursday that there is a need to preserve the cultural identity of the Scheduled Tribe community. At the same time, he called the dowry system wrong and called it a non-practiced practice and President Murmu urged the tribal women to come forward and take advantage of the government schemes.

The President stressed on the need to preserve the unique cultural identity of the tribals and said that their society is free from evil practices like dowry. He told that many people in the society, even the educated people, have not been able to give up the dowry system till date.

Tribal women of Jharkhand have shown exemplary performance in sports, he said, adding that women are also contributing to the economic development in the state. Further, he said that the hardworking sisters and daughters of Jharkhand are capable of contributing significantly to the economy of the state as well as the economic development of the country.

Around 25,000 tribal women participated in the event organized at Birsa Munda College Stadium. The President expressed confidence that through this convention, women would be more aware of their rights and the various schemes being run by the government for their benefit. He said that being a woman or being born in a tribal society is not a disadvantage.
