Patna: Decked up with colourful lights, the city markets were buzzing with activities with people making last-minute purchases for Eid-ul-Fitr, which will be celebrated on Thursday.
A huge rush was seen at bakery outlets, milk booths and dry fruit shops, where vermicelli and lachchas were being sold.
“Apart from food items, clothes, household goods, crockery, atar (fragrance) and jewellery are also in demand this Eid.Garment shops were packed with shoppers throughout the day, especially at old markets like Khetan Market, Patna Market Hathua Market and Sabzibagh locality. The rush also led to massive traffic jams in these areas.
Meanwhile, the district administration has beefed up security measures ahead of Eid. Police personnel have been deployed around Gandhi Maidan, mosques, ‘eidgahs’ and sensitive areas.
To maintain law and order, Patna DM Shirsat Kapil Ashok and SSP Rajiv Mishra on Tuesday deputed magistrates and police officers at 402 places, along with armed and ‘lathi’ forces.
The DM said magistrates and police officers have been deputed at 60 places in Patna Sadar areas, 133 places in Patna City sub-division, Danapur (69), Barh (61), Masaurhi (39) and Paliganj (40). “All the SDOs and SDPOs will make additional deputations as per the requirement,” Kapil said.
A 24×7 district control room has been set up by the administration and people can report any incident and get help by contacting 0612-2219810/0612-2219234. Dial 112 team will also be vigilant. Altogether 27 reserved magistrates have been deputed in three shifts in the district control room. Five reserved magistrates have been deployed at Gandhi Maidan, where thousands of Muslims will offer Eid namaz.
As per the plan, the people will enter Gandhi Maidan from any gate between gate numbers 4 and 10 and vehicles will be allowed from gate 5, 7 and 10. Parking arrangements have been made between gate number 5 and 10. The superintendent of police (traffic) has been directed to make arrangements for traffic management and parking under his supervision.
On the occasion, one ambulance each near the main entrance of Gandhi Maidan and one in the district control room will be deputed with doctors and necessary resources. Civil surgeon-Patna has also been instructed to deploy medical teams and ambulances at other important places in the district. Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology, Patna Medical College and Hospital, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Guru Gobind Singh Hospital-Patna City will remain alert to deal with any emergency.
Arrangements for drinking water will be made at important places in the district by the executive engineer, PHED. Adequate numbers of water ATMs and water tankers will be deployed. District fire officers have also been alerted.
The DM and the SSP have said that it would be the responsibility of the deputy magistrate, police station head, CO, SDO and SDPO to prevent any untoward incident. Police station chiefs and other officials have been instructed to make law and order maintenance successful by strengthening the intelligence system.
