Thane: The Thane police have busted a gang of seven who used to dupe people into buying gold at a subsidized rate and later robbed them at knifepoint and fled, police said on Saturday.
A police officer said that the gang would first identify the victims, contact them and later lure them into buying gold from bank auctions. Police said cases were registered against them at various police stations in Thane.
“The gang targeted a resident of Srinagar area of ​​Thane and persuaded him to arrange Rs 25 lakh by way of gold. The victim arranged the money, following which the accused asked him to come to a secluded place, following which they looted the cash from him at knife point and fled with the gold and cash.
The victim later contacted the Thane Police, who formed teams to track down the accused and managed to nab one of the accused and arrested him from Byculla in Mumbai.
