Rumor has it that fashion designer Manish Malhotra is making his directorial debut with a Meena Kumari biopic. Now his step son has reacted to this.

Renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra is going to make his directorial debut. Yes, you read it right. If a recent report in Mirchi Plus is to be believed, Malhotra will soon direct the biopic of late veteran actress Meena Kumari, featuring Kriti Sanon in the lead role. Reportedly, the film is currently in the scripting stage and will be backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.

Meena Kumari, who died of liver cirrhosis at the age of 38, acted in nearly 90 films and left an indelible mark on Hindi cinema. The report claims that the biopic is a way of honoring Manish’s legacy and the impact he has left on the industry and cinematographers.

Tajdar Amrohi, son of Meena Kumari’s husband Kamal Amrohi, expressed concern over this. Talking about the conversation between his lawyer and him, Tajdar told Bollywood Bubble, “My lawyer asked me if the film has even started. I told him, no, I have only heard about it. Even the big production houses like to be in the news. So, they told me that if in future they decide to close the project, it would look like I am publicity hungry. I am unnecessarily making enemies. I don’t want to do that. People will think that I am publicity hungry, but I am not like that.

He said, “Is this the only Bollywood couple on which a film will be made? With all due respect Nargis ji, Vyjanthimala ji, Reena Rai, Madhubala, Parveen Babi, Geeta Bali to name a few. Why are they not making films on them? Why are they only after my parents?”

Tajdar Amrohi acknowledged Kriti’s talent as an actress, but advised her not to play Meena Kumari on screen in order to preserve the reputation of the great actress. He also said that although Kriti is a talented actress, he believes that she should avoid playing Meena Kumari on screen in order to protect the reputation of the great actress. He further added that a ‘big announcement’ will be made soon about the alleged biopic.

A source had earlier told Hindustan Times, “The story and screenplay of this intense musical love story set against the backdrop of Partition has also been written by Malhotra. He has already prepared the complete script in his mind and the casting for the film will start soon.” However, nothing was heard about the film afterwards.
