Gurgaon: The city’s maximum temperature dropped to 32.9 degrees Celsius on Monday as compared to Sunday’s 35.6 degrees due to rains in the early hours of Monday. According to the meteorological center, the city received 13.5 mm of rain on Monday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers from Wednesday to Friday due to cyclonic conditions and western disturbance. The city will witness cloudy and gusty winds till Friday and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 37-8 degrees Celsius till June 22.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature dropped to 25.2 degrees Celsius from Sunday’s 27.2 degrees.
“Light to moderate rain and thundershower occurred at a few places over Haryana and Punjab. Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places on June 21 and 22, while the weather in the state will remain dry during the rest of the period.” IMD official said.
The region received unexpected rainfall in March, April and May, so the temperature was below 40 °C.
Western Disturbances and moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal caused widespread rain across the state.
The city’s air quality index (AQI) also improved from moderate on Sunday to satisfactory category on Monday. The reading was recorded as 79 (satisfactory).
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), “The main surface wind speed is 20-30 kmph from northwest/westerly directions over Delhi-NCR, Partly Cloudy, Very Light Very likely to occur with rain/drizzle at one or two places with gusty wind (speed reaching 35-45 kmph) till June 20.
Delhi also witnessed heavy rain and thundershowers on Monday. The maximum temperature in the capital was 34.5 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was 25.5 degree Celsius.
Weather analysts say that the city is receiving rains due to excessive moisture from the remnants of Biparjoy. On Monday, Delhi’s base station Safdarjung recorded 4.4 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm and 4.5 mm before 8.30 am. The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be around 37 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
