Kanpur: With the sighting of moon on Wednesday, the shoppers thronged the city markets for last-minute Eid purchases of clothes, accessories and edibles.
While many were looking for the latets trends in chikan kurta-pyjamas, skull caps, others were looking for matching footwears, burkas and prayer mats. Women shopped for accesories, jewellery, and footwears matching with their Eid dress.
Varieties of skull caps including Turkish, Indonesian and Lakhnavi chikan caps were in demand.Faheem, a shopkeeper at Meston road market, said, “Chikankari, Anarkali, Patiala, and designer heavy fabric suits were sold in huge numbers.”
A shopowner at Lal Bangla said, “Pathani salwar-kurta has been the choice of youngsters this year.”
Meanwhile, all necessary arrangements for Eid namaz at Badi Eidgah at Benajhabar, other Eidgahs and prominent mosques across the city were made on Wednesday. District officials on Wednesday asked the Kanpur Municipal Corporation to gear up for Eid-Ul-Fitr preparations.
Preparations for Eid namaz at Rail Bazar Eidgah, Bagahi Eidgah (Babupurwa) and Shujatganj Eidgah were also made. The Municipal Corporation officials inspected Badi Eidgah to take stock of the arrangements.
Commissioner of Police Akhil Kumar said that traffic diversions have been made for Eod namaz and security measures are in place.
