Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a virtual address after flagging off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat train. He said, ‘Political interests always dominated the modernization of railways after independence. Railway ministers were decided only after seeing the selfishness. Such trains were announced which never started. By taking away the land of the poor, they were given the bluff of a job in the railways.

The PM said, ‘Safety, cleanliness of the railways were ignored. Changes in all these arrangements started coming after 2014. In response to this, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said that it is unfortunate to call the tenure of former railway ministers motivated by corruption and selfishness. The PM has given this speech in view of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. This comment of his will not be accepted by the countrymen.

On the other hand, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have released the report of 30 Chief Ministers of all the states and UT’s of the country. According to this, apart from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, all the CMs of the country are crorepatis. Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is at number one with assets of ₹510 crore. While Mamta is at the last position with assets of just ₹15 lakh.

1. Criminal cases are registered against 13 out of 30 Chief Ministers, Eknath Shinde is 10th pass, 11 CM graduates

ADR has prepared this report after analyzing the affidavits of the Chief Ministers. Criminal cases are registered against 13 CMs. Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao has 101 cases registered, Kejriwal 16 while Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has 2 criminal cases registered. Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh is the youngest (39 years) among the current Chief Ministers. Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala is the oldest (77 years) CM.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is only 10th pass, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has a PhD degree. 11 Chief Ministers are graduates. Whereas 3 Chief Ministers (Hemant Soren, Bhagwant Mann and Pinarayi Vijayan) are 12th pass. Mamta Banerjee, the only woman CM in the country, is a post graduate degree holder. At the same time, the liability of 9 Chief Ministers is more than Rs 1 crore.

4. Kohli forgives the one who gave rape-threat to daughter, IIT graduate had threatened after defeat from PAK

The Bombay High Court has quashed the case against the accused who had threatened to rape the daughter of former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. Kohli and Anushka have forgiven the accused. The accused is a graduate from IIT Hyderabad. Kohli’s manager Akil D’Souza agreed to withdraw the case from the accused named Ramnagesh Akubathini of Hyderabad in the court. It was D’Souza who lodged the FIR.

D’Souza told the Bombay High Court that Ramnagesh had written a letter to him on April 5, requesting Kohli-Anushka to cancel the FIR. After this the couple forgave the accused. On 24 October 2021, Team India, captained by Kohli, was defeated by Pakistan by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup. Angered by the defeat, Ramnagesh had threatened to rape Kohli’s daughter on social media.

5. Retail inflation eases to 15-month low, down to 5.66% in March from 6.44% in February

There is good news about inflation. According to the data released by the Central Government, the retail inflation rate has come down to 5.66% in March. The inflation rate in February was 6.44%, while it was 6.52% in January. Inflation has come down due to fall in the prices of food items. Now retail inflation is the lowest in the last 15 months. Power and fuel inflation has also come down from 9.90% to 8.91%.

RBI has set a target of keeping the retail inflation rate between 2% to 6%. However, in the last one year, the retail inflation rate has been below 6% in only two months. Inflation is directly related to purchasing power. For example, if the inflation rate is 7%, then Rs 100 earned will be worth only Rs 93. That’s why investing should be done considering inflation, otherwise the value of your money will decrease.

The first underwater train in the country reached Howrah passing through the Hooghly river in Kolkata

For the first time in the country, a metro train was run in a tunnel built under the river. This train reached Howrah from Kolkata via the Hooghly river. The underwater metro train being tested in Kolkata connects Esplanade on the east bank of the Hooghly River and Howrah Maidan on the west bank. Howrah Metro Station is 33 meters below the ground and it is the deepest metro station in the country.

Although common people will be able to travel in this train after 7 months. Till then it will be trialled. About 120 crore rupees have been spent in making this metro tunnel. The country’s first metro service was also started in Kolkata in 1984. After this, the second metro was started in the year 2002 in Delhi. Now there is metro connectivity in 12 cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur.
