UDHAGAMANDALAMSeven-day pre-monsoon census process begins in buffer zone of : Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in (MTR) Eucalyptus on Tuesday.
The number of carnivores, prey base and vegetation in the buffer zone which includes ranges like Singara, Sigur and Northeast Slope will be estimated by forest staff and anti-poaching watchmen. A training program was organized for the personnel at Theppakadu Training Center on Monday.
Forest Range Officer G Balaji said that 24 transect lines have been made in three ranges for the exercise. “34 teams comprising 130 personnel have been formed for the census. Only forest field workers and officials have been deployed for the purpose and volunteers are not involved. Range officers of the respective ranges will supervise the process,” he added.
The exercise will end on June 4 and the data collected will be sent to National Tiger Conservation Authority ,NTCA) for compilation.
