Against the backdrop of the gangster-turned-politician ateek AhmedThe Allahabad High Court on Monday directed the UP DGP to tighten the security of jailed leader Mukhtar Ansari. Also, the court directed top police officers to prevent the media from interviewing him when he is going to court.
Notably, the fresh order came as Ansari would be produced in court.
The Court said, “was not averse to media taking interviews of undertrial prisoners. But in view of the recent incident of murder of undertrial prisoners by criminals disguised as media persons, this restriction should be imposed in the interest of security.” of the prisoner, who is being heard by the Supreme Court.”
Mukhtar’s wife says that her husband may have been killed
A division bench of Justice Dr. KJ Thakar and Justice Shivshankar Prasad issued this order on the petition of Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afsan Ansari. The petitioner had sought protection from the High Court fearing that her husband would be killed outside the jail on the day of his appearance in the court.
Significantly, Ansari is currently lodged in Banda Jail. DSP Mohammadabad filed an affidavit and told the court that the police and jail administration are taking full care regarding the security of Mukhtar Ansari. The DSP said, “Security measures have been taken inside and outside the jail. An inspector, two sub-inspectors, two head constables, 8 constables and two drivers have been deployed for security.” According to the report submitted by SP Ghazipur, maximum security is being provided to Ansari.
