Days after accusing the party leadership of “politics of accommodation” with the Congress, Mysuru MP Prathap Simha has said that leaders of the affairs in the state did not show up to campaign to win the assembly polls.

Mr Simha told media persons here on Friday that his reference to “politics of accommodation” was an expression of the anguish and turmoil of party workers.

He said that in 2018, there was a perception among party workers that if they had worked hard, the BJP – which then won 104 seats – could have formed the government on its own, and blamed itself for the result.

“BS Yediyurappa felt this anguish of party workers and again led from the front and took it upon himself to bring the party to power. In 2019, the BJP government was formed in the state. He single-handedly addressed the flood situation as the cabinet was yet to be formed and the latter was battling COVID-19 before relinquishing power,” Mr Simha said.

But in 2023, there was a feeling among the workers that the leadership was becoming indifferent towards them. Had the leaders displayed the same determination as Mr. Yediyurappa, the BJP would not have been in the position it is today in Karnataka, Mr. Simha said.

Without naming anyone, Mr Simha said those who later assumed power did not respond to BJP workers’ demands for strict action against those accused of killing party workers, including Harsh and Pravin Netru, or the Justice Kempanna Commission The report was not presented. Arkavathi Layout scam on de-notification of land. “It is to this plight of the workers that I have given my voice,” said Mr. Simha.

Refuting suggestions that the BJP central leadership appeared weak in approving such “politics of accommodation”, Mr Simha said the party’s vote share was 36% and intact despite the electoral defeat.
