Protest of wrestlers: Farmers of Punjab stopped at Khanauri border. Ludhiana News – Times of India

Patiala: The Haryana Police on Sunday morning stopped a large number of farmers from Punjab at Khanauri, the inter-state border of Punjab and Haryana, to prevent them from reaching Delhi and joining Mahila Mahapanchayat’s dharna in support of women wrestlers.
Women wrestlers are protesting against the accused BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and demanding his arrest. Delhi Police has filed two FIRs against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after the wrestlers moved the Supreme Court.
On Sunday, the farmers under Krantikari Kisan Union (KKU) and Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta Azad started reaching the Khanauri border At 6 in the morning but stopped by the Haryana Police. Police has put up barricades and deployed heavy police force to stop the farmers from reaching Delhi till 11 am. Groups of khap mahapanchayats plan to protest outside the new parliament building in Delhi on Sunday, which was inaugurated by the prime minister.
The number of protestors, including women farmers, has increased at the Khanauri border after the message about farmers being stopped by the Haryana Police spread everywhere. Till morning there were about 200 farmers in the group of two farmer unions. By afternoon the number had crossed 700. Farmers under BKU revolutionary also started arriving before noon.
BKU Ekta Azad leader Jaswant Singh said, ‘We were supposed to reach Delhi at 11 am and join the protest outside the new parliament building, but the police stopped us at Khanauri border by erecting barricades and deploying heavy police force. In the morning, farmers under the two unions had to cross this border to reach Delhi; However, after getting the information about the farmers being stopped here, a large number of farmers have started gathering. Farmers also joined us under BKU Krantikari. This message has reached the entire region and the farmers of Haryana are also coming in our support. We are waiting for further decision to be taken collectively by farmer unions and action will be taken accordingly.
