New Delhi: The CBI On Tuesday, searches were carried out at nine places in several states, including the premises of RJD MLA Kiran Devi and Rajya Sabha member Prem Chand Gupta.jobs for land” scam.
Officials said the raids were carried out after the alleged role of two RJD functionaries came to the fore in the ongoing investigation.
The searches were carried out at the premises of Kiran Devi and her husband Arun Yadav in Arrah and Patna in Bihar, and Gupta’s premises in Gurugram, Rewari, Noida and Delhi, an official said.
Two months ago, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was questioned in a matter that pertains to irregular appointments of candidates in the Central Railway, in violation of Indian Railways’ norms and procedures for recruitment, when Tejashwi’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav was the railway minister.
The MLA’s husband targeted the BJP over the raid
The CBI has alleged that as a quid pro quo, the candidates, either directly or through their relatives, sold land at highly subsidized rates to the family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav (the then Union Railway Minister).
No advertisement or public notice was issued for the appointment, but some residents of Patna were appointed as officiators in various zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur, it is alleged.
The CBI had in October last year filed a charge sheet against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, her daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others in the land-for-jobs scam. The alleged scam took place when Yadav was the railway minister between 2004-09. Apart from the RJD leader, the name of the then Railway General Manager is also included in the charge sheet.
Reacting to the raids on the premises of his MLA wife Kiran Devi, her husband and former RJD Sandesh MLA Arun Yadav said, “BJP is trying to scare us with CBI raids, but we are not afraid of such raids. Lalu ji Are mine. God. The raid is carried out because I am his faithful soldier.
Arun further told the mediapersons: “As the 2024 Lok Sabha election is coming nearer, the BJP is adopting pressure tactics to frighten the Mahagathbandhan leaders through the CBI raids. Lekin hum Lalu ji ke majboot sipahi hain, humni ke Krishna bhagwan ke vansaj hain ja . Hum na deraib ie raid se, (I am a loyal soldier of Lalu; we are the descendants of Lord Krishna. I am not going to be afraid of such raids).”
Targeting the BJP, Arun said, “The way BJP is adopting tactics to intimidate opposition leaders through such raids, it will have an impact on the 2024 elections.” We are grassroots leaders. The Grand Alliance will not bow down to such pressure tactics of the BJP.
