Roof of Chandni Mahal collapses: newborn dies

A day after a woman and her three-year-old son died when the roof of an old building in central Delhi’s Chandni Mahal collapsed, her newborn son also died in a hospital. The police gave this information on Wednesday.

DCP (Central) Shweta Chauhan said that eight-day-old Junaid passed away late last night.

Ruksara, 30, and her five children, who were staying at her father’s residence in Chitli Kabar area, were rushed to the hospital after the roof of the building collapsed on Tuesday morning. Rukhsara and her son Aaliya died at the hospital, while the condition of the rest of their children is stable, police said.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said the residential building, “built about 100 years ago”, consisted of ground floor, first floor and a partially constructed second floor.
