Scorching death of a person sleeping near the bonfire

A 44-year-old man died after his clothes caught fire while he was sleeping near a bonfire outside his house in southeast Delhi’s Jaitpur, police said on Wednesday.

An official said that after receiving a PCR call about the incident in the morning, a police team reached the spot in Jaitpur’s Hari Nagar Extension area and found the charred remains of the victim, Madhu Biswas.

The deceased worked as a laborer at a construction site nearby along with his two sons, police said, adding that according to his son’s statement, Vishwas was inebriated when he went to sleep.

The official said legal action has been initiated and the victim’s body has been sent to AIIMS for post-mortem.
