Due to heavy snowfall in Himachal, 2 trunk roads have been blocked. The Manali-Leh highway is already at a standstill. Now the Indo-Tibet Highway has also been closed. Apart from this, about 400 link roads under the Public Works Department, which connect the three tribal districts of Himachal, are stuck.

The tribal and border areas of Himachal have been receiving snowfall since last 24 hours. The Manali-Leh strategic road is already closed due to snowfall. Now the Hindustan-Tibet road leading to Samdo border has also been closed beyond Reckong Peo. The road connectivity to the Mado border has been completely cut off.

3 to 4 feet of snow accumulated on the roads
According to the information received, there has been 3 to 4 feet snowfall in Rohtang, Kunzum, Baralacha, Shinkula and Kugati passes. 1 to 2 feet of snow has fallen in Pangi Kilar of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba. BRO officer Rajendra Katoch told that about one feet of snow has fallen at the BRO headquarters at Powari in Kinnaur.

Due to snowfall, the road leading to Sumdo border is now closed. While BRO workers and machines continued to clear the snow amid the snowfall, around 400 approach roads under PWD in Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba’s Pangi Kilar have also been closed.

Drinking water and power supply affected
PWD’s Executive Engineer BS Negi told that the work of removing snow from the road will be started as soon as the weather opens. At the same time, electricity supply along with drinking water has also been affected in the tribal areas, the work of smoothening which is also going on.
