As per preliminary reports, the thieves targeted the Union Bank ATM at around 3 am and decamped with Rs 6.26 lakh. Sources claimed that the thieves had come in an SUV and fled on seeing the PCR patrol van in the area.
An FIR was registered at Rajkot Taluka Police Station Sanjay Rajpur, an executive of a company that provides essential service to the ATM located opposite the Government Engineering College and was useful to the students and teachers. Rajpur said the thieves entered the ATM using a gas cutter and CCTV footage showed that three people were involved in the robbery.
The trio fled on seeing a PCR van which informed the control room about the suspicious SUV. A team from Rajkot Taluka Police Station visited the area and found the tampered ATM.
According to the complaint, five lakh rupees were loaded on the afternoon of July 13. Taking the rest of the amount together, the ATM had a total of about Rs 9.78 lakh, out of which Rs 3.35 lakh was withdrawn by the customers. It has been said in the complaint that the thieves absconded with the remaining Rs 6.26 lakh.
