Chennai: TVS Motor is betting big on the electric vehicle segment, creating a range of products in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler categories across multiple EV platforms. Speaking at the AGM, the company’s MD Sudarshan Venu said that TVS will introduce products for both the Indian and global markets to capture the huge opportunity that EVs offer.
The company is working on several new platforms for its EV launch and recently launched the upgraded iCube The e-scooter which has garnered over 15,000 orderbooks.
“We will launch electric vehicles in the range of 5-25 kilowatt hours,” Venu said. These will be both two wheelers and three wheelers. The company is also developing an electric two-wheeler platform in the sub-15 kWh range with BMW Motorrad, he added.
TVS Subsidiary norton It is also working on electric superbike as a luxury global product. It is part of Norton’s plan to develop electric motorcycles in the UK after winning significant investment from the UK Government’s Advanced Propulsion Center scheme.
“Norton as a brand has tremendous value and heritage and we will rediscover it in a modern way,” Venu said. “Production has begun for the new Norton bikes and we are developing an electric superbike that will be our basis for a play in the luxury EV segment in developed markets,” he said. TVS has sold more than 10,700 units of iQube Electric till date.
