Unseasonal Rain Lashes Kutch, Saurashtra | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: Unseasonal rain was recorded in Saurashtra and Kutch region on Sunday, under the influence of induced low-pressure area over south-west Rajasthan and its neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation.
Anjar town in Kutch recorded 56mm of rainfall which led to waterlogging in many streets. The sudden change in climatic conditions may have brought relief from the heat, but it raised concerns over the impact of the unseasonal rain on the mango crop as well as other standing crops in the farms across the Kutch and Saurahstra region.
Farmers were also worried about their produce that was lying in the market yards across the region.
According to the IMD forecast, light thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind speed of 30kmph to 40 kmph accompanied by light rain was likely for the next two days at isolated places in Banaskantha, Bharuch, Surat, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Kutch and in Diu.
“Discomfort conditions due to hot and humid air very likely to prevail over coastal areas of Gujarat region and Saurashtra and Kutch for next three days,” the IMD bulletin stated.
Kutch district administration stated that besides Anjar, rain was recorded in Rapar, Deshalpar, Mankuva and other parts of the district.
Light showers were also witnessed in Morbi and Halvad towns. Dhari taluka in Amreli and rural areas of Gir Somnath district also recorded a change in weather for the second consecutive day.
Rain with thunderstorms was recorded in Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district. In Jasdan taluka of Rajkot, there was a sudden change in weather on Sunday afternoon with heavy gusts followed by rain and thunderstorms.
With heavy wind and rain at many places in the Saurashtra region, farmers who had sown sesame, bajra, mung, groundnut and fruits like watermelon and muskmelon were worried as it could damage their crops.
