Varanasi: The Unit for Strengthening Medical Certification of Causes of Death, Center for Cancer Epidemiology and Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Center (MPMMCC) and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (HBCH), in collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operations, Uttar Pradesh, will organise a two-day training program on Medical Certification of Causes of Death for trainers. The workshop will be held on February 14-15 at the Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Varanasi.
This program aims to build the capacity of a group of trainers who will then train others working in the civil registration system and medical certification of cause of death across UP. Participating doctors have been nominated by the Director General of Medical and Health and 18 government medical colleges in the state. Following the initial training, an additional six-day workshop on International Classification of Diseases (ICD) death coding will take place at the Mahamanapandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre from February 15-21. Participants, nominated from government health institutions in six Indian states, will benefit from this in-depth session.
Correct coding of death data is crucial for health ministries, hospitals, and national statistical data collectors. This information, analysed at facility, provincial, national, and international levels, helps understand health status, identify leading causes of death, and develop vital preventive and public health strategies.
