Wc Heartache? 50% Attendance During 3rd T20i At Barsapara | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: India’s defeat at the hands of Australia in the recently-concluded men’s ICC cricket World Cup final had a bit of an impact on the third T20I between both the sides here, as about 50% of the seats were filled, at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The stadium, which played host to warm-up matches prior to the start of the World Cup, has a seating capacity of 40,000.An Assam Cricket Association source confirmed that hardly 50% of the seats were filled during the T20I encounter. “There may be various reasons. India’s defeat in the World Cup final may be one of them. However, theattendance hasn’t been that poor either,” the source said.
The scene was quite opposite to the one when the venue hosted an IPL match, earlier in the year, in April. Back then, the rush was huge.
One Geetam Das from Chandmari, who went to the stadium to catch a glimpse of the rush, normally associated with the venue, said the turnout was discouraging and showed that the followers of the game in the state were yet to overcome India’s surprise loss in the final.
“I watched the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings here in April. However, I have not purchased a ticket this time as I am yet to overcome that loss in the final. It will probably take some more time for the cricket fans to overcome the pain,” he added.
For Sanjoy Deka of Narengi, though, a live match at the stadium was an experience in entertainment. “I don’t take sports seriously as victory and defeat are two sides of the same coin. One team will emerge winners. I am watching a match at the stadium just for its sheer entertainment value. However, everyone is bound to have their own personal opinion,” he said.
