With storm brewing, SRC advises fishermen to stay away from sea | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of IMD’s forecast of a possible cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal by Saturday, the special relief commissioner (SRC) on Tuesday asked fishermen not to venture into the sea from Friday.
Under the influence of the system, squally wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over central Bay of Bengal to adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal from Friday and is likely to become 50 to 60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph on Saturday.“Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from Friday and those out at sea are advised to return to coast,” the SRC’s advisory read.
The IMD’s weather bulletin said low pressure over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Malacca Strait moved nearly westwards and lay over south Andaman Sea on Tuesday. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over south-east Bay of Bengal around Thursday.
On Tuesday, dense fog was seen at Phulbani in Kandhamal district while shallow to moderate fog was witnessed at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi and Sundargarh. Light to moderate rain is ikely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on Wednesday.
