Woman Gets 4-year Jail For Kidnapping Infant | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: The second additional district and sessions (special) court here has sentenced a woman, who was convicted in a human trafficking case for stealing a seven-month-old infant from its mother, to four years of jail and a Rs 10,000 penalty on Thursday.
Special public prosecutor (SPP) Jyothi Pramod Nayak said that the accused is Rubiya alias Fathima,44.Rubiya, who had introduced herself to the complainant as Fathima, used to beg near the Mangaluru Junction railway station. On January 12, 2017, the accused took away the seven-month-old child when the mother was begging near the railway station. Later, the accused carried the child while begging at various places. Rubiya was found to be exploiting the child for begging near a mosque at Mandi Mohalla under the Mandi police station limits in Mysuru, on January 22, 2020. The complainant also identified Rubiya and the child. Following this, the then police inspector of Kankanady Town police station, Ramakrishna KK, and sub-inspector Pradeep TR conducted an investigation and later submitted a chargesheet to the court, the SPP said.
DNA tests were conducted by collecting samples from the complainant and accused, to establish the identity of the biological mother of the child. As per the DNA test, the complainant was found to be the biological mother. Second additional district and sessions (special) court judge Preethi KP examined 12 witnesses and delivered a verdict, convicting the accused under Section 363 of the IPC (punishment for kidnapping).
The accused will have to undergo one more months’ imprisonment in case she fails to pay the penalty, the SPP added. tnn
