Yemen’s Houthis say they targeted bulk carrier, number of US war destroyers in Red Sea – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Yemen‘s Iran-aligned Houthis have attacked a bulk carrier named Propel Fortune in the Gulf of Aden, according to Yahya Sarea, the group’s military spokesperson.
This was revealed during his televised speech on Saturday. The Houthis have been continuously targeting ships in the Red Sea since November. They claim that these attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians amidst the ongoing war in Gaza. Sarea further stated that they had also launched an attack on several US war destroyers in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden using 37 drones.
In response, the US Navy successfully intercepted and destroyed 15 uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea area.
The attack took place between 4 am and 6:30 am, as confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The UAVs were considered a threat to merchant vessels, US Navy, and coalition ships in the region.
The State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, emphasised that the United States will continue to hold the Houthis accountable for their attacks on international shipping.
Sarea reiterated that the Houthis will persist with their attacks until the aggression ceases and the blockade on the people of Gaza is lifted.
