United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in India Shomby Sharp said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a yoga session at the UN Secretariat on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on June 21. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a seminar organized in New Delhi on the occasion of completion of 75 years of United Nations (UN) peacekeeping, he also said that since 2015 the world has truly adopted International Yoga Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a yoga session at the United Nations (UN) Secretariat on June 21, Sharp said. He said that everyone has understood the importance of Yoga and 175 member countries have signed it immediately. It is one of those popular international days and actually symbolizes a lot of things. It is effective for mindfulness and mental health. The Secretariat carries out substantive and administrative functions of the United Nations, as directed by the United Nations General Assembly, the Security Council and other organs.

He said that yoga has helped people in difficult times like the Covid-19 pandemic. Yoga helps to stay fit and lead a happy life. International Day of Yoga has created a resonance with the international community. And it will be special to have PM Modi in the United Nations. According to the United Nations website, the draft resolution for the establishment of the International Day of Yoga was proposed by India and supported by a record 175 member states.
