Union Minister Amit Shah said that before the year 2024, all the state capitals of the North Eastern region will get rail and air connectivity and this is no small achievement.

The Union minister asserted that the BJP-led government has taken steps to strengthen local languages in the northeastern states, adding that no major official event takes place in Delhi without the participation of artistes from the northeast.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance in Tripura will increase its seats and also vote share in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Before noon on the day of counting of votes to form the government in the state.

In an interview with ANI, Shah took a dig at the opposition in Tripura and said that the Congress and the Left parties have forged an alliance in the state as they have accepted that they alone cannot defeat the BJP.

“We will increase our seats and also increase our vote share in Tripura,” he said. The Congress and the Communist Party have come together because they have accepted that they alone cannot defeat the BJP. We will form the government with absolute majority in the state.”

Expressing confidence in the BJP’s victory in the Tripura assembly elections, Shah said the BJP is seeking a mandate to make the state prosperous in the next five years on the basis of the development initiatives of the party-led government.

“We ended violence in Tripura and also took strong action against cross-border drug trade in the state,” he said.

When asked about the possibility of a hung assembly in Tripura, Shah said that the constituencies in Tripura are small and “you will see that before 12 noon on the day of counting, the BJP will have crossed the majority mark”.

Talking about BJP’s ‘Chalo Paltai’ slogan used during the last assembly election, the minister said it was not a slogan to come to power in the state, but to change the situation in Tripura.

The slogan ‘Chalo Paltai’ was given to change the situation in Tripura and today we have done that. Earlier, when the Left was in power in the state, government employees were paid under the 5th Pay Commission, but we implemented the 7th Pay Commission without increasing the fiscal deficit.

The BJP created a record in 2018 by ousting the Left Front government that ruled Tripura for 35 years since 1978. Voting for the 60-member assembly will be held in the state on February 16.

The BJP is contesting on 55 seats, while its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is contesting on the remaining five seats.

When asked that Manik Saha had replaced Biplab Deb as the chief minister of Tripura in May last year and whether this indicated the BJP’s central leadership controlling the state unit, Shah said Deb is an MP. And there are many key organizational responsibilities in the central BJP.

He added that sometimes changes are made if national parties require leaders at the central level. “I think it is a propaganda, it should not be seen from any other angle,” he said.

The minister further said that under the leadership of PM Modi several steps have been taken for the welfare of the people in the Northeast. “Today there is peace in the Northeast, peace accords have been signed with many militant organizations,”

Shah further said that PM Modi’s initiative has helped the tribal population and said, “Tribal communities are now experiencing development. Today we have the country’s first tribal president. The benefits being given to poor families are being denied without any The discrimination is being extended to the tribal community as well. They feel that they were misled earlier.”

Shah said that before the year 2024, all the state capitals of the northeastern region will get rail and air connectivity and this is no small achievement.

“About more than 8,000 cadres of terrorist organizations have laid down arms and joined the mainstream. The Northeast was known for blockades, protests, bombings and militancy. Today roads are being built there, airports are being built. Where there was one airport in a state like Tripura, we are building another airport here. The Prime Minister has launched various development projects for the North Eastern region.”
