VMC: Residents told to repair ‘unfit’ buildings or demolish them Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: Vadodara Municipal Corporation ,vmc) on Tuesday urged people living in dilapidated buildings to take down dangerous parts or take steps to make the structure safe.
Sources said there could be around 600 buildings or houses in the city which have been classified as ‘unfit’ by the civic body. Most of these houses are located in the old city areas. Such houses often collapse during heavy rains.
The civic body sent notices to those living or occupying such ‘unfit’ buildings. It put out a public notice urging occupants of ‘unfit’ buildings to either bring down the dilapidated portion or take safety measures as the buildings could collapse due to heavy rains or cyclonic conditions.
While no major incidents have been reported, sources in the fire and emergency services department said 29 house collapse calls were attended to by the fire department in 2022-23. In 2021-22 also, the same number of house collapse calls were received by the fire department.
However, VMC has not taken any strict action regarding such houses. Sources said the process of issuing notices is done every year, but no further action is taken.
